Goodbye, Gol: VW's new 'cheapest' car debuts in 2023

The Gol is undoubtedly one of Volkswagen's most iconic models. The best-selling car in history in Brazil is saying goodbye to the market in 2022 after 42 years on the road. To celebrate the trajectory of the hatch, VW presented this Friday (11) the Gol “Last Edition”.

There will be only a thousand copies of the model produced in the “Sunset” red color.

Sales start later this month and the final value should be in the range of R$ 100 thousand. The official price will be announced by VW on November 23rd.

Volkswagen's new entry model

Now, the “cheapest” car position of the German brand will pass to the Polo Track in Brazil, an unprecedented and more basic version of the model.

The Pacto hatch is already on pre-sale for BRL 79.990 and hits the market in February 2023. The price is comparable to that of a new Gol 1.0, which comes out today at a fixed price of BRL 78.160 (radio, front speakers and rim wheels 15).

The difference is that for another R$1.830, the Polo Track offers four speakers, four airbags and two steering assistance features that the Gol doesn't even have, traction and stability control.

The younger brother is also longer in wheelbase: 2,56 m against 2,46 m. Reflecting on more comfort and internal space.

On the outside, the most notable changes are in the design of the front bumper, which gained larger air intakes.

To cut costs, the headlights take advantage of the same shape as the old Polo. The mirrors and door handles are also not painted, while the hubcaps are painted in black.

At the rear, the name "Track" appears stamped on a sticker in the center of the trunk lid. The rest of the changes are subtle. The rear bumper, for example, has also been redesigned with a slightly more aggressive face. Inside, the seats are upholstered in gray fabric with lighter details, which is also repeated on the doors.

A negative point is that the Track is the only Polo in the line that comes without a standard multimedia center. The 9″ screen ponent will be sold out at VW dealerships as an accessory, as well as the rear parking sensor.

The engine is the same 1.0 that equips the Gol Last Edition, three-cylinder, 84 hp and 10,3 kgfm of torque. The transmission, in turn, is a five-speed manual.

Production of the new VW entry-level car starts in January at the company's factory in Taubaté (SP).
