November is an interesting month for the lunar cycle, and even featured a total lunar eclipse, seen in different parts of the world. The phases of the Moon in November began on the first day of the month, the beginning of the Crescent Moon and the end of the New Moon in October.
A lunation or lunar cycle, what is called the time interval between new moons, is subtly variable, averaging 29,5 days in duration. During that time, it goes through four main phases (new, waxing, full, and waning), each of which lasts for approximately seven days.
There are also “interphases”: waxing quarter and gibbous crescent (between new and full phases) and waning gibbous and waning quarter (between full and waning phases).
