  • Obsessive stalkers: are those who fall in love with a person and can't handle the fact that that person doesn't love them. They can be familiar people or strangers;
  • Dangerous stalkers: are those who pursue a person with the intention of causing physical or psychological harm. They can be familiar people or strangers.

Is stalking a crime?

Yes. Stalking is a crime in Brazil and many other countries. In Brazil, stalking is provided for by Law 14.132 of 2021. The penalty for those who commit this crime can vary from six months to two years of seclusion, in addition to a fine.

If you are being stalked, report the perpetrator to the police. You can do this online, through the Civil Police website (PC), or at the police station closest to your home.
