What is the order to watch the Twilight Saga?

The Twilight saga has five films, which adapt the four books written by Stephenie Meyer. The journey begins in the 2008 film of the same name as the franchise; and ends up in Breaking Dawn: Part 2, released in 2012 (yes, that's been a decade). And the other three films, where do they come in?

For those who don't know the saga, it's hard to guess the order. After all, its beginning is in Twilight (time between the end of the afternoon and the beginning of the night), its end in Dawn (beginning of the day). And, in between, moon phases and astronomical phenomena appear. Confused.

Thinking about it, the Technology Refugee prepared a guide for the lost and the curious. Check below the order to watch the Twilight Saga:

Twilight (2008)

The Twilight saga begins with the film that names the franchise, released in 2008 (Image: Reproduction)

The saga begins with the change of city of teenager Isabella Swan (Kristen Stewart), Bella. Daughter of divorced parents, she decides to leave Phoenix, the sunny capital of Arizona, in the USA, where her mother, Renée (Sarah Clarke), lived. Destination: Forks, a rainy town in Washington, to live with her father, Charlie (Billy Burke).

Bella meets old acquaintances - Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner), son of her father's best friend - and makes friends at the new school. It's there where she meets the Cullens, a clan of (spoiler alert) vampires. Among them, it is Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) who draws her most attention. The closer they get, the more Bella's life is in danger. And the more passionate she gets.

The first film hit theaters in 2008, directed by Catherine Hardwicke and screenplay by Melissa Rosenberg. And it returned to the big screen in 2022, to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the end of the saga.

Where to watch: in theaters, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Star+, Lionsgate+, YouTube (from BRL 6,90), Google Play Filmes e TV (from BRL 6,90) and Apple TV (from BRL 11,90 ,XNUMX).

New Moon (2009)

In 'New Moon', the teenage romance becomes Shakespearean (Image: Reproduction)

Everything goes wrong when Jasper Cullen (Jackson Rathbone) tries to kill Bella on her own birthday by smelling her blood. The incident is nearly fatal, but costs her relationship Edward.

The girl enters a depressive spiral and who saves her from herself is her best friend, Jacob. there's the love triangle. Only she discovers, eventually, that Jacob is (spoiler alert) a werewolf.

To help, a misunderstanding leads Edward to believe in Bella's death - and he decides to die too. Now, she's the one who needs to save him. And this confusion leads the couple to the Volturi, vampire royalty, in Italy. It's an ending almost à la Romeo and Juliet.

From New Moon – the second film in the saga, released in 2009 – the atmosphere of a teenage romance becomes Shakespearean. This turn was in charge of director Chris Weitz (The Golden Compass) and, again, screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg.

Where to watch: in theaters, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Star+, Lionsgate+, Paramount+, YouTube (from BRL 6,90), Google Play Filmes e TV and Apple TV (from BRL 11,90)

Eclipse (2010)

What is the order to watch the Twilight Saga?
The third film in the Twilight saga has a darker tone and ends in war (Image: Reproduction)

Here, Bella decides to become a vampire (without marrying Edward), Jacob tries to break the relationship and Victoria (Bryce Dallas Howard) creates an army to march on Forks. The vampire seeks revenge for her ex-partner James (Gigandet), killed by the Cullens in Twilight, after he kidnapped - and almost killed - Bella.

The film marks the climax of the Edward-Bella-Jacob love triangle and ends in a war between newborn vampires and the Cullens, who allied with the local werewolf pack. And at the end (spoiler alert): engagement.

Out comes the Shakespearean atmosphere, in comes the twilight of terror. In charge of telling the most visceral part of the saga was director David Slade, help from screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, now experienced in the franchise. The premiere of this third film took place in 2010.

Where to watch: Netflix, Globoplay, Amazon Prime Video, Star+, Lionsgate+, Paramount+, YouTube (from R$6,90), Google Play Filmes e TV (from R$6,90) and Apple TV (from R$11,90) XNUMX)

Breaking Dawn: Part 1 (2011)

The first part of 'Breaking Dawn' is the echo of the end of the Twilight saga (Image: Reproduction)

It is precisely at the wedding between Bella and Edward that the film begins. Then comes the honeymoon, where Bella becomes pregnant. From here, chaos ensues.

On the one hand, the hybrid fetus (half human, half vampire) begins to consume the mother's body. On the other hand, the werewolves decide to march against the Cullens. Jacob splits from the pack and starts his own to defend Bella. Once again, she almost dies – but then, everything changes. Again.

The fourth film is the beginning of the end of the saga. This time directed by Bill Condon – and, of course, screenplay by Melissa Rosenberg – the feature brings a more mature (and reddish) palette to the franchise, exploring the themes of marriage and pregnancy.

Where to watch: Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Star+, Lionsgate+, Paramount+, YouTube (from BRL 6,90), Google Play Filmes e TV (from BRL 6,90) and Apple TV (from BRL 11,90. XNUMX).

Breaking Dawn: Part 2 (2012)

What is the order to watch the Twilight Saga?
In the last film of the Twilight saga, Bella is a vampire and the Cullens (kind of) go to war against the Volturi (Image: Reproduction)

Bella is a (spoiler alert) vampire. Giving birth to Renesmee (Mackenzie Foy) would have killed her had it not been for Edward's massive injection of vampire venom during the procedure. It is from there that the last film of the saga starts.

While Bella adapts to her superhuman capabilities, she has to deal with another fact: Jacob imprinted on Renesmee (a kind of bond that is not necessarily loving). As if that weren't enough, war is back on the family's horizon.

This is because the Volturi find out about Renesmee and believe her to be a vampire child, something strictly forbidden. Before the clan's soldiers arrive in Forks, the Cullens call on allies from around the world.

The idea is to have reinforcements to help them, either in the lip or in the punch. In the end, the war sort of happens. “Does a war 'sort of happen'?” you might be asking. Just watching the movie to understand.

The feature was also directed by Bill Condon, screenplay by Melissa Rosenberg, and hit the big screen in 2012. Ten years later, you can miss the saga (or get to know it) in the movie theater. Or at home.

Where to watch: Netflix, Globoplay, Amazon Prime Video, Star+, Lionsgate+, YouTube (from BRL 6,90), Google Play Filmes e TV (from BRL 6,90) and Apple TV (from BRL 11,90. XNUMX).
