Instagram has announced that it will no longer have the IGTV application separately from the rest, the idea is to concentrate all the resources in the platform's main app. The official shutdown decision marks the end of an era for one of the video incursions.
Via a post, Instagram clarified that it is shutting down the standalone IGTV app as "part of [its] efforts to make video as simple as possible to discover and create." In addition, the company means that all videos in the main app will have a full-screen view and tap-to-mute mode, as they are working to provide a more efficient way to consume different types of content.
The company also plans to “test a new ad experience on Instagram that will allow creators to monetize ads displayed on their rolls” and that still in 2021. It is worth remembering that the standalone IGTV app was announced in 2018 to petition YouTube.

In less than a year, IGTV videos were being promoted in the main Instagram app, videos appearing on the Explore page, and views appearing in stories and the main feed. As early as 2020, Instagram ended up removing the shortcut that took users to IGTV in the main app, the justification that few people used it.
Then, at the end of last year, the company renamed IGTV to “Instagram TV”. The changes are an attempt by the brand to establish itself as a video platform and the decision to retire IGVT was placed as a continuation of the “investment in video”. Meta also offered content creators a $35 bonus to encourage the use of Reels and other new features, which are very similar to TikTok.
