Google released 31 new emojis; check out

The Unicode Consortium is a non-profit organization that coordinates the development and promotion of Unicode and is responsible for maintaining the official emoji catalog for smartphones. The company published this past Tuesday (13) the Unicode 15.0 standard 31 new emojis, including a hand that pushes, a face that shakes (or “I'm in shock”), a moose, a goose, the long-awaited heart color of pink and a Wi-Fi/Wireless signal, and Google is already in on the act.

Some illustrations of these 31 emojis were seen for the first time in July of this year. Now that they have been approved, phone, operating system and application manufacturers will implement their own versions to introduce them to their devices.

To assist in this process, Google has already published the new emojis in its Noto font for the web, so developers can incorporate them more easily.

Google has already said that the new emojis will be available for the Android system by the end of the year, and next year they will be available in other Google products.

In addition to the updated and colored version of the Noto font, the company has also published a revamped monochrome version of the new emojis font. In early 2022, Google had first released monochrome emojis, the for example a nod to emojis on older feature phones.

The company will also apply the COLRv1 standard, which makes it possible to change parts of the font/emojis. To understand it better, just imagine that you are trying out a demonstration of the duck emoji and manage to shuffle the colors of different parts of the duck image, thus creating a new version.

Currently support for COLRv1 is only available in Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, support for Firefox is coming soon. However, it is still not possible to send emojis in mixed colors through messaging applications.
