The new Practical Guide for TV Ratings was recently launched by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security. The publication presented the new self-classification symbols for TV, film and video productions, streaming services, video games and RPG, applications and shows open to the public. But, do you know these icons well?
In addition to the symbols, the new guide provides guidance on the new format of information that must be provided to the public by the companies that produce the works. The idea is precisely to help content producers on the criteria and parameters of the public rating policy.

Also known as “censorship”, the parental rating aims to prevent the transmission of inappropriate content for children and adolescents. Now, trailers and schedule calls must also include the description “Check the indicative rating”.
Despite the new guide, the technical criteria for the age classification of these products are maintained. The analyzes are always carried out based on three thematic axes: “sex and nudity”, “drugs” and “violence”, mitigating and aggravating factors that may impact the indicated age classification.

In the free indicative classification, it is possible to have the presence of weapons without violence, death without violence, bones or skeleton in violence or fantasy violence, what happens in cartoons. Only non-erotic nudity is also allowed. Finally, free-for-all content may feature moderate or implied use of legal drugs.
For children from 10 years old, distressing content, fear or tension, weapon violence, criminal act without violence, derogatory and bone language or skeleton remnant of an act of violence. Here, the little ones can be exposed to educational content about sex and the description of licit drug consumption, discussion on the topic of drugs and the medicinal use of illicit drugs.
In the indicative rating of 12 years, productions are allowed to show verbal aggression, sexual harassment, violent act and violent act against animals, bullying, description of violence, exposure to danger, exposure to a corpse, exposure of a person in an embarrassing or degrading situation, injury body, death resulting from a heroic act, natural or accidental death, pain or violence, obscenity, presence of blood, victim's suffering, overvaluation of physical beauty and consumption and psychological violence.
As with violence-related content, the 12-year-old classification is also more detailed. It is allowed to show appeal, caress or, sexual innuendo, foul language or sexual content, masturbation, veiled nudity and simulation of sex. The last point, about drugs, allows the productions to show the consumption of licit or irregular drugs, discussion about the legalization of illicit drugs and induction of use or mention of illicit drugs.
At age 14, audiences can be exposed to scenes of abortion, stigma or prejudice, euthanasia, sexual exploitation, intentional killing and the death penalty. Sex and nudity content allows eroticization, nudity, prostitution, sexual intercourse and vulgarity. As for drugs, productions can show insinuated consumption or description of consumption or illicit drug trafficking.
Already in the indicative classification 16 years old, the content for young people admits the presentation of acts of pedophilia, hate crime, rape or sexual coercion, mutilation, suicide, torture and gratuitous violence or trivialization of violence. The other point of the tripod releases the productions of intense sexual intercourse. Finally, the public in this age group is authorized to view content for the consumption, induction and production or trafficking of illicit drugs.
The last symbol is the indicative classification of 18 years. In this case, content exclusively intended for adults. In it, it is possible to convey an apology for violence and cruelty, explicit sex, complex sexual situations or those with a strong impact, and an apology for the use of illicit drugs.
