You know that day when the rush doesn't let the cell phone reach 100% charge before taking it out of the socket? Either because of being late or at the last minute, or even because of impatience. But, does not fully charging damage the battery of the device?

Besides doing harm, can the act make the battery addicted? And, by the way, is there a minimum percentage of when to put the cell phone to charge or should we only plug the phone into the socket when it completely discharges? Can your cell phone battery become addicted?

To answer this question, you first need to understand that cell phone batteries are currently lithium-ion batteries. Thus, service life is measured in cycles. Each measured cycle is when the battery is fully charged. Soon, she doesn't get addicted.

“The battery generally has a cycle of 400 charges that must be respected. Failure to comply with this procedure may result in early damage to the battery, or a reduced lifespan”, explained electronic production engineer George Monte.

This, of course, is when it comes to the most current battery technologies. According to electronic engineer Eronides Neto, depending on the material, there is this possibility of “addiction” to the load. “This loss is based on the ability of the chemical elements to react, so it loses capacity over time”, he added.

Do I need to wait for the battery to completely discharge before charging?

The answer is no. If 20% of charge remains, the device warns of low battery, it is already possible to plug the cell phone into the socket without damage, according to George Monte. “You can charge it whenever you want, but note that for each 'full' charge, equivalent to 100% of it, you will count one cycle”, amended Eronides Neto.

So can I unplug it before it reaches 100% charge?

Here, the answer is yes. But, it doesn't cost a reminder from Monte: “the thing to do when charging is to wait to reach 100% charge to avoid damage and needlessly count cycles”.
