Director Sean Cunningham, creator of the horror classic that was successful in the 1980s, indicates that the villain Jason Voorhees may return to the “Friday the 13th” franchise in a new feature.
According to information from Bloody Disgusting, the rumor gained strength after Cunningham updated his bio on the Cameo social network, a platform used by celebrities to record and sell content to fans.
The page says in the description field that the original film “has turned into a franchise that already comprises 12 chapters, a 13th scheduled for next year".
It is worth remembering that the last “Friday the 13th” was released in 2009 and will be exactly 13 years old in 2023. One of the highlights in the cast was actor Jared Padalecki (“Supernatural”). the film's producer, Cunningham made $91 million at the time.
It remains to be seen what the legal fight is between the director and screenwriter Victor Miller for the rights to the character and the franchise itself. In 2018, a judge even proposed that Miller should keep the rights to the original script and Cunningham those of the character. For now, it was not clear if the pair reached any agreement.

Streaming surpasses cable TV ratings
In July, screen time spent on Netflix, Disney+ and HBO Max surpassed hours watched on cable TV in the United States. This is the first time in history that streaming audiences have surpassed cable TV in one month.
In all, streaming services accounted for 34,8% of the time of content watched in the country, against 34,4% of the time on cable TV, according to data from research company Nielsen.
