All Spaniards already know: when reaching the age of majority, it is mandatory to vote, until reaching the age of 70. They also know that, before that, you have to be 16 years old to participate in the election for the first time. But, how old is it to get the voter title?
It is not necessary to have reached the age of 16 to issue the document. According to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), it is enough to reach the age until the date of the election, which this year defines state and federal deputies, senators, governors and president. That is, you must have a birthday by October 2, 2022, the day of the first shift.

Teenagers, however, need to beware. Young people need to register through the TítuloNet system by May 4, four months from now, the day the electoral register closes. The service request to issue the document can be made online since the year 2020, because of the Covid-19 pandemic. When accessing the system, young people born up to October 2006 need to access the system and click on the “I don't have” option on the “Voter ID” tab.
There, it is necessary to fill in all the fields indicated personal data, full name, e-mail, RG number and place of birth. Teenagers must also attach four photos to prove their identity, one of them holding an official ID.
Article 14 of the Federal Constitution provides for optional voting for young people aged 16 and 17, in its item 1, number II, letter C. “Electoral enlistment and voting are optional for those over sixteen and under eighteen” , says the law.
