The mysterious black hedgehog is super powerful and could be the new villain of the franchise. Created in 2001 for the game 'Sonic Adventure 2', Shadow has the role of being the dark part, a hedgehog hybrid of an evil alien race called 'Black Arms' or “the ultimate life form”.
Developed in a laboratory by the grandfather of villain Ivo Robotnik, Dr. Gerald Robotnik, Shadow – in the beginning – came from a noble idea, which was to be the key to the development of cures for deadly diseases, which Gerald's granddaughter Maria suffered. However, he was considered a threat and ended up imprisoned by the US government for 50 years.
In the games version, Shadow's release was due to Ivo Robotnik's plans to defeat Sonic. The character is super-powered, hero-like speed and teleportation ability. But until then, he is not a villain, he just tends to have his anger directed to cause Sonic problems, even telling the situations in which he ends up collaborating with his colleague.
In 2005, the solo game 'Shadow the Hedgehog' gave the possibility to control the character as an anti-hero who used motorcycles and firearms against the creatures of the 'Black Arms'. In the plot of the game, Sonic had to join forces and in that, unpublished information was given, the use of the DNA of 'Black Doom', the leader of the 'Black Arms', so that the black hedgehog had all that power.
Now, if Shadow will be all that in the continuation of the franchise after 'Sonic 2'? We don't know, it's a mystery what will appear on the big screen, what can't be denied is that Shadow's involvement in the Sonic Cinematographic Universe has already begun to form.
The option is a good strategy at the moment, as Jim Carrey's Robotnik return is uncertain. The actor stated that he intends to retire after 'Sonic 2', that is, a new villain increases the unfolding of the franchise's narratives.
