New EA app is now available and will replace Origin

    After more than ten years of existence, the Origin platform will be discontinued by Electronic Arts soon. The company has officially launched the EA App, which will replace the publisher's current PC gaming app.

    In a post on its official blog, EA released more information about the new app and according to the company, the EA App will be its “fastest and lightest” program yet. The company also stated that it will be a “more reliable and streamlined” gaming experience.

    The publisher explains that beta testing of the application helped create a program that was the best possible place for users to play library games. In the EA App, players will be able to play while background updates and automatic downloads occur.

    With that in mind, there will be a transition from Origin to the EA App and players will receive an invite to make the switch soon. All previously installed games and content will be ready to be transferred to the company's new application – it is possible to download the program through the official blog.

    In addition, players will be able to create a friends list by connecting their EA account to other platforms and services such as Steam, Xbox and PlayStation. It will be possible to observe which games are being played by users and that, access titles friends.

    The new app is available for PCs supporting Windows. Mac gamers still won't be able to access the program, Origin still being EA's platform for the service at this time.

    Launched in June 2011, Origin came to be Electronic Arts' main application and the company's goal was to compete for Steam's digital distribution space. However, the program has lost ground to Valve's platform and the Epic Games Store in recent years.
