You know what it is 'Roblox'? The successful title available for Xbox One, PC, MacOS, Android and iOS (iPhone and iPad) is much more than a simple game, but a creation platform where users can develop their own games and even earn money from them.
Amid the period of social isolation imposed by the covid-19 pandemic, 'Roblox' greatly increased its number of users, reaching more than 42 million active players per day, according to the developer Roblox Corporation.
And the game that mixes creation and gameplay is a success among children and young people, according to the owner of the title. More than half of young people under the age of 16 and from the United States (USA) play the game, surpassing other hits that used to be successful in the age group, 'Minecraft'.

What is 'Roblox' and does it work?
'Roblox' is an MMORPG (multiplayer online game), but mainly, a 3D creation platform and game development by the users themselves. Different from 'Minecraft' – which is a sandbox, that is, a game where it is possible to do and create whatever you want -, the title is a base that allows creations.

Who created?
Developed by engineers David Baszucki and Erik Cassel, 'Roblox' still has no definition of its origin, as the platform has changed a lot since it was initially conceived.
The game started to be developed in 2004, under the name 'DynaBlocks'. In 2005, it was renamed 'Roblox' and made available to the public in its testing phase, but the official release of the first final version of the game took place only on September 1, 2006.
And according to David, one of the developers, the idea behind 'Roblox' is even older, having started a 2D physics tool back in 1989.
Is it safe for children? Is it from the devil?
A large part of the audience, if not the largest, of 'Roblox' is made up of children and adolescents up to 16 years old. Therefore, the platform takes precautions to keep the environment safe. When creating an account, the player registers whether they are under or over 13 (information that is never publicly available) and, depending on the confirmed age, some gameplay restrictions are imposed.
And a cool tool for parents and guardians of the child or teenager is access to tools that expand protection and allow you to limit the types of games available, in addition to reviewing the message history. The developer, however, states in an official document included in the “Terms and Conditions of Use” that, in any online game that involves interaction between people, there is always a certain level of risk, and therefore monitoring is recommended.
