Fans of horror movies, and more specifically of the “It: The Thing” saga, can rest easy: HBO Max may be producing a prequel series centered on Pennywise, a creature from the films that usually appears in the form of a clown. According to information from Variety, the production, titled “Wele to Derry”, will start in the 1960s, in the period leading up to the events of “It: Chapter Two”, from 2019.
Andy Muschietti, who directed the first two films, is also involved in the project and will serve as executive producer along with Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs. According to the tabloid, Warner Bros. Television remains the studio behind “It”, having also produced the previous films.

The two “It” productions together grossed more than $1,1 billion at the global box office. The first film, “It: The Thing”, from 2017, showed that the legend of the clown, already known in the city of Derry, was real. Already “It: Chapter Two” (2019), takes place years later the same children in their adult form and needing to face the haunting again. The story of Pennywise is based on the work of Stephen King.
In fact, in 1990, that's when the book received its first adaptation, made by ABC a miniseries of two parts Tim Curry the Pennywise. In the reboot, Bill Skarsgard is the one who wears the costume of the sadistic clown, the actor received several accolades for his interpretation under the skin of the creature. Skarsgard was also in Marvel's "Eternals" (2021), and currently joins the cast of "John Wick 4", Keanu Reeves, scheduled to come to movie screens only in 2023.
