“The Rings of Power”: Everything we know about the second season

Along with “House of the Dragon“, “The Rings of Power” is among the most acclaimed series in the second half of 2022. The story based on the universe of JRR Tolkien was so successful that Amazon had already ordered at least four more seasons .

The second one has already begun to be filmed, leaving fans excited and a lot of expectations about the unfolding of the plot. However, Amazon is still a mystery about when we will return to Middle-earth.

WARNING: The text below contains spoilers for the first season of “The Rings of Power”.

Possible season premiere dates

The last episode of the first season has already delivered that a new character is on the way to the plot, in addition to the Stranger's identity being revealed and, Sauron, unmasked. Now, fans want to know when they'll be able to get more responses.

However, as we mentioned above, Amazon has not revealed any exact date for the premiere of the new season, but it started filming this month, this time, only in the United Kingdom and no longer in New Zealand.

But, it is unlikely that the footage will take 18 months to be shot (like the previous ones), since the Covid-19 pandemic is more controlled and that the head of Amazon Studios, Jennifer Salk, hinted that a more speed is about to happen, and a higher write speed is essential.

"Let's get this out to the world as soon as possible," Salke told Variety. “We want as little time between seasons as possible, but we want to keep the anticipation high. Then you'll take whatever it takes. But there's been some urgency to move quickly and that's why these guys have been writing throughout their hiatus. We are moving fast.”

all this information, one can imagine the end of the recordings in the middle of 2023. In the best scenario, considering post-production, it is possible that “The Rings of Power” will receive its second season in early 2024. Perhaps, even in the end of 2023, as Amazon wants to speed up the process.

Cast and new characters

The original cast of “The Rings of Power” will follow suit. Morfydd Clark will return Galadriel. Charlie Vickers is also back as Sauron, aka the Southlander (and formerly known as Halbrand).

Side by side with two elves, we can expect Elrond (Robert Aramayo), Grande Rei Gil-galad (Benjamin Walker), Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards) and Arondir (Ismael Cruz Cordova) to continue their journeys.

It wouldn't be strange to see a romance between Arondir and Bronwyn (Nazanin Boniadi) in season two. Theo (Tyroe Muhafidin) may also be looking for Adar (Joseph Mawle).

The Harfoots trail can get chilly, though. Nori (Markella Kavenagh) has departed The Stranger/Gandalf (Daniel Weyman) and left her family and friends behind. They may meet again one day, but attention will certainly be focused on the next step in the pair's search.

In Númenor there is space at the top. Miriel (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) will be mourning her father's death and coming to terms with her own loss. Elendil (Lloyd Owen) may remain by her side and may have to divert attention from Pharazon (Trystan Gravelle).

Not to mention the dwarves Durin IV (Owain Arthur) and Disa (Sophia Nomvete), who will be back.

The only novelty in the cast, according to The Hollywood Reporter, will be the introduction of Cirdan, "one of the oldest and wisest elves", who already has a designated actor, however, not yet disclosed.

What will the course of history be?

"I think in some ways it's going to be grittier, more intense, maybe a little scarier," "Rings of Power" executive producer Lindsey Weber told Deadline.

This speech may refer to the Dark Lord himself. Season XNUMX ended with Sauron - who was disguised as Halbrand - heading towards Mordor and Mount Doom.

Your ultimate goal? We can point to the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy as evidence of things to come, but his short to medium term plans will involve taking revenge on Adar and gaining control of the legion of Orcs who want to follow him.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner JD Payne said he wants to give Sauron the Galadriel treatment in season XNUMX in terms of diving deep into the character's motivations.

“Season XNUMX is like, 'Who is Galadriel? Where did she come from? What did she suffer? Why is it conducted?' We're doing the same Sauron thing in season two."

Another showrunner, Patrick McKay, added: “Sauron can now just be Sauron, Tony Soprano or Walter White. He's bad, but downright bad. We felt that if we did that in season one, it would overshadow everything else. So season one is 'Batman Begins' and 'The Dark Knight' is the next movie, Sauron maneuvering in the open. We're really excited. The second season has canonical history. There may well be viewers who say, 'This is the story we were hoping to get in season one!' In season two, we will be giving it to them.”

And then there are the titular rings. These three Rings of Power may be out of reach, though they are certainly items of interest to Sauron should he find himself in conflict with Galadriel again.

Speaking of Galadriel, she is now united in a pact of balance between Elrond and Celebrimbor. The three rings for the Elven Kings should avert any unwanted threat to the Elven race in Mordor for the time being. Keeping them in your possession – and ensuring that power does not corrupt – is another matter.

The Númenor hierarchy is equally problematic. The king is dead and Miriel has gone blind. Who's left to pick up the pieces? Though Miriel is still a great leader and supported by Elendil, there are those who might try to claim the throne – the Pharazon.

The most intriguing storyline of “The Rings of Power” season XNUMX, however, is between The Stranger/Gandalf and Nori. Judging by the ending, the unlikely duo will travel east to Rhûn in season two.

Your destination could be an important location in the new batch of episodes. If they get there, that is – following your nose can only take you so far. Either way, they're sure to meet some of Middle-earth's top characters on their long journey.

Whatever happens, let's not expect the story (which takes place in the Second Age of Middle-earth) to bump into the events of “The Lord of the Rings”, nor in “The Hobbit”. We are still a little far from that.

The premise of “The Rings of Power” is that this series is, and always will be, a prequel long before Aragorn and Frodo enter Middle-earth.
