Fighting piracy: 1337x site banned torrent uploads by YTS group

Torrent site 1337x banned uploads from the group known as YTS after it handed over user data to movie studios, aiding in piracy lawsuits.

YTS.mx launches hundreds of movie and series torrents every week, and the download links (.torrent files) are listed in aggregators, oo 1337x. banning the account and the “bot” that makes the uploads, 1337x users will no longer see YTS uploads.

Last Monday, TorrentFreak published an article detailing how the operators behind YTS handed over a user's data to movie studios, including the IP address used to log in, what files were accessed, and the email associated with the account. As a result, several studios have filed a piracy lawsuit against Mical Mesot, a US Army veteran, and demand payment of US$97.704,79 (about R$547).

It was the final straw for the 1337x operators. “We considered banning them a few months ago when it first came out that they had potentially been promised and Torrent Freak published several articles about them being sued but magically still working,” they say.

Another group that was banned by 1337x was EZTV.io, which according to operators acts as a “front” for YTS and started uploading torrents from the group as soon as its account was banned.

“After banning the YTS bot account, the EZTV bot account started uploading YTS torrents. This is the confirmation we needed that EZTV and YTS are linked. We always suspected that,” said the 1337x admin.

The ban will certainly affect the image of the YTS group, as 1337x is the third most popular torrent site in the world, after The Pirate Bay and YTS.mx itself. However, that doesn't stop the group from continuing to publish torrents on its own website and listing them on other aggregators.
