How to record calls natively on Android

The call recording feature on Android is nothing new. Until then, most users had to choose to download a third-party app from the Play Store to gain access to this feature. Over time, some models even started to have this feature natively, but even so, the list of supported devices was limited.

Now it's time for Google to release direct call recording in its 'Telefone' application, the search giant's official dialer. In practice, this decision will lead to call logging for several Android devices. Check out how to get access to the new feature in the guide below.

Record calls using the 'Phone' app

At first, the device must meet some prerequisites for everything to work. First, the device must be running Android version 9.0 or higher. The official Google dialer must also be installed and updated to its latest version. If you don't have the app yet, visit this link to download it directly to your smartphone.

The feature works relatively simply. Follow these steps to be able to record new calls:

  1. Access the 'Phone' app on the home screen or in the app drawer;
  2. Test by calling or receiving a new call;
  3. Click on the 'Record' button;
  4. To end the recording, select 'Stop recording'.

Check out how it works in practice in the video below:

Find or delete recordings

To find and listen to stored calls, open the 'Phone' app again and access 'History' to access the full list of recordings saved on the device. Select 'Play' if you want to play the content of the links. To delete recordings, follow the same steps as above. When you find a call you want to delete within the history, swipe left and confirm the request.

It is noteworthy that some manufacturers already include call recording in their devices. In the case of the Chinese Xiaomi, the functionality is available directly from the MIUI12 dialer. Anyone who owns a branded device running this version of the system can use the feature by clicking 'Record' when receiving or making a new call.

Remember, the recording only works if the call is answered. Call waiting and conference calls cannot be recorded using the Google app. It is also important to point out that this is a function that is being released gradually, that is, it may be that your gadget has not yet been contemplated with the novelty.
