What is an anasarca frame?

A picture of anasarca is characterized by swelling of the whole body, a type of edema that occurs due to the accumulation of water and sodium inside the cells and in the space between them (a fluid retention). Generally, excess fluid occurs due to heart, kidney or liver failure, cirrhosis, allergic reactions, diseases of the lymphatic system, and others that can also result in the so-called edemigemic syndrome (generalized edema).

Anasarca can also generate other symptoms, increased blood pressure, changes in heartbeat, chest pain or shortness of breath, which makes the case serious and delicate, depending on the affected organs. Treatment varies according to the health condition and affected region, but it usually involves the use of diuretics and salt control in the diet. Blood thinners, antihypertensives, and antibiotics may also be considered.

What are the risks?

In an interview with Technology Refugee, physician Alexandre Soeiro, a cardiologist at BP — A Beneficência Portuguesa de São Paulo, explained that one of the risks of an anasarca condition is that, in the same way that the liquid overflows to the skin, it also overflows to the lungs.

“Anasarca is a reflection of fluid in the body. It's when we have too much fluid and it leaks into the fatty tissue under the skin, leaving us completely swollen. The risk of this is that, in the same way that there was an extravasation in the skin, there is an extravasation in the lung. And usually patients already have heart or kidney failure, and the main symptom will be shortness of breath, he can enter an extreme situation of respiratory failure, which is the greatest risk he can have, "said the specialist.

Soeiro also highlighted that, although some cases are related to heart failure, there is no link here with a heart attack. “Anasarca is not directly related to the heart attack, they are separate things. Of course, a patient who has a heart attack and who has a loss of heart contraction strength, he can evolve into posterior anasarca due to muscle failure, because he is weaker, but the anasarca will not cause the infarction.”

Albert Einstein Positioning

O Technology Refugee Contacted Albert Einstein's advisory and, in a medical report, the hospital stated that the idol's condition is "stable, full control of vital functions". "Following medical evaluation, the patient was moved to a one-bedroom, with no need for admission to a semi-intensive unit or ICU."

The note also explained that Pelé is only undergoing a “reassessment of the chemotherapy treatment of the colon tumor identified in September 2021”. More details about the picture or high forecast were not informed.
