“Nosso Lar 2: Os Mensageiros” is a future Spanish film of the drama and spiritualist genres that has the book “Os Mensageiros”, from the series “A Vida No Mundo Espiritual” by Chico Xavier, the base. A sequel to the 2010 box office hit “Nosso Lar”, the feature film is directed by Wagner de Assis and is finally about to wrap up filming, which is taking place in Rio de Janeiro.
Among the main cast members of the film are Edson Celulari, Fábio Lago, Aline Prado and Nando Brandão. In an exclusive interview with Splash, from UOL, Assis spoke about the continuation, the future of the franchise and highlighted the depth of Spiritist subjects that, according to the filmmaker, "offers a wealth of stories" for cinema.
“It's a combination of factors. Sometimes one has more weight than the other. But I would say the main one is when I find a good story. A truly sensational story, wherever it is. I always liked good stories, because they reveal something about the human condition”, said the director.

Considered almost an expert on the subject, Assis has several spiritist productions in his curriculum, “A Cartomante” (2005) – his first film of the genre – “A Menina Índigo” (2016), “Kardec” (2018) and “Ninguém é of Nobody", which is based on the book of the same name by Zibia Gasparetto and also recently ended its recordings. The filmmaker revealed that, in fact, he always appreciated supernatural subjects and, getting more involved in the subject due to the movies, aroused an even greater fascination.
“We don't stop because, when we can understand that what people are writing is about the human condition, it becomes fascinating. And, well, since I'm here now, I need to make choices that speak to me. You can't spend years doing something that doesn't touch you in some way. It's a lot of work. So, it's a bit of a combination of these two things”, explained the filmmaker.
“The other condition is personal research. Spirituality is our last frontier, the human spirit is our last frontier, and we should look a lot at this, from a scientific, philosophical point of view, because that's what it's about. The consequences are that they are religious,” she added.
In addition to “Ninguém é de Nobody” and “Nosso Lar 2”, Assis is also working on the documentary “Chico Para Semper”. The project, which takes place in partnership with Marcel Souto Maior, writer of the best seller “As Vidas de Chico Xavier”, has more than 80 interviews and aims to present the life of one of the most famous mediums to the whole world.
Also according to UOL, the first film, also shown by Assis, took four million people to cinemas in Brazil and adds up to a total of 50 million spectators worldwide. Both the first feature and the second feature the saga of André Luiz – played by Renato Prieto – a doctor who, after his death, meets Chico Xavier.
“'Os Mensageiros' is a book that actually conveys what André Luiz's purpose was, which was to talk about life in the spiritual world. It is a very important book when talking about mediumship. He starts describing failed mediums, and I think this is very important because it makes mediumship something that can be questioned, if it is not suitable, ethical and correct. Mistakes happen, judgments can be taken in bad ways. I understand that, in this film, we add much more to the idea that there is life after life. These relationships that we showed in the first film, which exist incarnated and disembodied, they go much further than what was explored in the first feature”, he said.
“Nosso Lar 2 – Os Mensageiros” is expected to premiere in 2023, still without a specific date. “Our Home”, from 2010, is available on Netflix.
