Walt Disney himself (1901 – 1966) is often mentioned, like so many other related characters, Goofy was a collective creation. The main credited is Art Babbitt (1907 – 1992), one of the studio's great animators, passages in works 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs', 'Pinocchio' and 'Fantasia'.

While Babbitt was responsible for the original design, the design came from another artist in the house, Frank Webb. No less important was the dubbing work of Pinto Colvig (1892 - 1967), which gave Goofy his characteristic laugh.

And if we're talking about Goofy's beginnings, it's worth noting that in his first appearance, in the animated short 'Mickey's Revue', released on May 25, 1932, the character wasn't exactly what we know today. A kind of luxury extra in animation, this proto-Goofy is a spectator who bursts out laughing at a concert conducted by Mickey. It's all there: the voice we know, the messed up look and a look very close to what we have today, but a little more aged.

This ancestral Goofy didn't even have that name: he was called Dippy Dawg. Only after some changes in the design, in the course of other appearances, that the character was baptized Goofy (Goofy, in the original), in 1939. This year is also the first solo appearance in a short, in the animation 'Goofy and Wilbur'.

Father of himself

The more aged look of the original Goofy has been shed, but not necessarily forgotten. its popularization, the character ceased to be a supporting character in Mickey's and Donald's adventures and gained a universe of its own, including family members.

And Dippy Dawg's design was later reused for Goofy’s father, Amos Goofy. Cartoons and comics from the late 1950s already mention Goofy's father, who only officially appeared decades later, in the 2000s 'Point do Mickey' animation.
