Know who is Sylvie, character from the 'Loki' series

[CAUTION: POSSIBLE SPOILERS TO FOLLOW] the arrival of the third episode of 'Loki', came the confirmation that the character played by actress Sophia Di Martino is not the female version of the protagonist, Lady Loki, but another name from the comics: Sylvie Lushton, the "Enchantress". And like the series, it is directly linked to the "God of Mischief", but is not a variant of the protagonist.

The suspicion about the character not being the long-awaited Lady Loki arose at the end of the second episode, in a leak of the dubbing credits in Castilian. The connection was immediate, as there is no one by name in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) at this time. Of course, the series has more episodes to come and nothing has yet been confirmed about Sylvie's origin, but it would be a worthy introduction. Find out more below about who the “Enchantor” is to get ready for the new Disney+ production to unfold:

The origin of Enchantress

There are two women in the Marvel comics who coined the name Enchantress. The first is a Thor villain, who first appeared in a 1964 story, also known as Amora. However, she is not the version that showed up in 'Loki'. The Sylvie revealed in the series is actually Sylvie Lushton, the second adaptation of the character. She adopts this name precisely in reference to the former because of the similarity between her original witch powers of Asgard.

In the 2009 'Dark Reign: Young Avengers' arc, Sylvie was a girl who lived in Oklahoma (USA) and had a normal life. When Asgard is rebuilt on Earth after the events of Ragnarok, it awakens magical powers. At first, the young woman believes she is Amora reincarnated – something similar to what happened to several other Asgardians during the 'Reborn of the Gods' saga.

It is then revealed that Sylvie is actually the butt of a prank by Loki (Lady Loki at the time, as he had stolen Sif's body), who decided to give powers to a human out of boredom and to see what happened. she would react by suspecting it was from Asgard. The comics never explained whether the character never existed as a real person, and could have been created entirely by the "God of Mischief" just the prank, but there are strong indications in that direction. At a certain point in the course of the story, Thor's brother dies and the young woman, now the Enchantress, is greatly weakened.

Powers of Sylvie, Young Avengers and Young Masters

As already shown in the series, Sylvie is an extremely powerful character. To get an idea, her techniques are stopped in the comics of Wiccano, Wanda's son. Abilities include mind manipulation, energy projection, teleportation, telekinesis, and transmutation. Obviously, someone that powerful - whether a person or not - wouldn't fall prey to Loki's antics for long. At a certain point in Marvel chronology, she decides to walk on her own feet and venture into the heroine.

But Enchantor's redemption occurs precisely during the 'Dark Reign' saga, when the publisher's heroes are replaced by villains after a major turnaround. Just to give you an idea, at the time the bow was active, Norman Osborne, the Green Goblin, was the leader of the Avengers.

In the midst of all this confusion, Sylvie joins the Young Avengers team. Initially, she is part of an alternate lineup of the team – murderous, racist to psychopathic characters. After finding the real one and confronting him, Enchantress proves to be genuinely good and heroic, being accepted into the main team.

However, when Wiccano discovers that Sylvie was created by Loki, suspecting the young woman's origins, he decides to expel her from the group. Thus, she returns to her (controversial) old team, which is now called Young Masters. From then on, the Enchantress begins to act dubiously, sometimes heroine, sometimes villain. Leaning more towards the dark side, she begins to impersonate the original Enchantress and confronts various Marvel heroes, such as Doctor Strange and the Defenders.

Sylvie was last seen in the comics when the original Enchantress resurfaces and discovers everything the character impersonating her has done. Thor's villain then decides to banish her to one of the Ten Kingdoms for ten years, the promise that if she survives, she would become her personal friend. Since then, she has never been seen again.

Enchantress in 'Loki': what will be the impact?

In the series, it remains a mystery whether Sylvie Lushton really was a human who "some Loki" gave powers to or if she is, in fact, an alternate version of the "God of Mischief". It is very likely that Marvel Studios will make significant changes to its history when bringing it to the MCU, being able to merge the Enchantress with Lady Loki. Well, what matters is that Loki and Mobius will have a true journey through the multiverse from here to try to understand the real motivations of the possible villain…

However, if Marvel decides to introduce the Enchantress into the MCU, it will be one more of the trials that the studio is gradually projecting the inclusion of the Young Avengers.

Exclusively on Disney+, 'Loki' premiered on June 9, with new episodes every Wednesday. In addition to Tom Hiddleston e Owen Wilson ('Marley and Me'), Gray Gray ('The Morning Show'), Sophia di Martino ('Yesterday') and Richard E. Grant ('Could You Ever Forgive Me?') Are also in the cast of the production.
