Paramount announced the release date of the sequel “Sonic 3: The Movie”, a new chapter in the blue hedgehog franchise that has been successful in theaters.
After “Sonic: The Movie” made a resounding success in 2020, a sequel, “Sonic 2: The Movie”, hit theaters in April of this year, repeating and even improving the good performance of its predecessor.
Now, the third film in the franchise, “Sonic 3: The Movie”, has just won an official release date, scheduled for a little over two years from now.
The announcement was made on the official Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter, in a tweet that reads: "Running faster, flying higher and hitting harder. Sonic 3: The Movie hits theaters on December 20, 2024.”

— Sonic the Hedgehog (@SonicMovie) August 9, 2022The 2024 release date is nothing new, as screenwriters Pat Casey and Josh Miller previously confirmed at KCC ic-Con 2022 plans to release “Sonic 3” by 2024.
The new film is part of Paramount's ambitious plan for the Sonic the Hedgehog "cinematic universe," which includes, in addition to this sequel, a Knuckles-centric TV series for Paramount+, with Idris Elba returning to voice the character.

Little is known about the new film, but everything is worth analyzing, the announcement was made using a GIF containing Sonic, Tails and Knuckles, which could mean that the three characters will be involved in “Sonic 3: The Movie” .
The Knuckles spin-off series is slated for 2023 on Paramount+, and will be the next installment in the franchise. It remains unclear whether Sonic and Tails will make appearances in the series, nor how much of a continuation of the film, which we now know arrives in 2024.
“Sonic 3: The Movie” hits theaters on December 20, 2024.
