The series “House of the Dragon” premiered this Sunday, 21, and introduced several new characters, belonging to Houses already known by fans of “Game of Thrones“.
The noble Houses of Westeros are something quite remarkable, both in the new series and in the original. Their colors, coats of arms and mottos are carried by the members of these families, and people are identified by the Houses and what position of power they hold.
So let's recall which Houses are featured in the first episode of “House of the Dragon”.
Targaryen House
The name of the series is "The House of the Dragon", and the House of Dragons is the Targaryen, of which several members are introduced early on in the new series.
From the introduction, which shows a flashback to the history of the succession of Westeros, members of the Targaryen family are introduced. Daenerys Targaryen's ancestors begin to be introduced from Old King Jaehaerys, who convenes the Great Council of Harrenhal to choose his heir to the Iron Throne.
There, Viserys, who ends up becoming king, and “the queen who never was”, Rhaenys Velaryon, who despite the different surname due to marriage, is a Targaryen by blood, are already introduced.
In addition to them, we have Daemon Targaryen, the king's brother and Rhaenyra, the king's daughter and one of the protagonists of this story.
Hightower House
The Hightowers have no place in "Game of Thrones", but are sometimes mentioned in the books. During the years in which “House of the Dragon” takes place, they are the Lords of the Reach, a position occupied by the Tyrells at the time of “GoT”. Margaery and Loras, prominent characters of House Tyrell in “Game of Thrones”, are direct descendants of the Hightowers.
These are closely related Houses, the Tyrells being vassals of the Hightower at the time of "House of the Dragon". Some very important characters in the new series are part of House Hightower, as is the case of Otto Hightower and his daughter, Alicent Hightower, who will play a central role in the plot of the series.
Arryn House
Despite not being mentioned, House Arryn has an important representative in "House of the Dragon". This is Aemma, mother of Rhaenyra, wife of Viserys and queen of Westeros. She is the daughter of an Arryn a Targaryen, daughter of King Jaehaerys, and is therefore a cousin of Viserys.
The Arryns are the main house of the Vale, and have been prominent in “Game of Thrones” since the beginning, the death of Jon Arryn being the trigger for the beginning of the events of the series. Other important characters are Lysa Arryn, who has Tully blood, and her son Robert Arryn.
Baratheon House
Long before they took the Iron Throne, the Baratheon were yet another noble House of Westeros. During the jousting of the Tournament in celebration of the birth of the king's heir, they appear as Petitioners, being defeated by Ser Criston Cole.
Additionally, Boremund Baratheon, a distant ancestor of Robert, Stannis, and Renly Baratheon, is shown swearing an oath to the King and Princess Rhaenyra at the end of the episode.

Stark House
The Starks, lords of Winterfell and protectors of the North, are the House caught up close in “Game of Thrones”. Ned Stark and his children feature prominently from beginning to end of the series, but in "House of the Dragon" they are largely secondary.
The only time the Starks are mentioned in the first episode is in the same oath made by Boremund Baratheon at the end, made by Rickon Stark, an ancestor of Ned.
