Since last Tuesday, June 7th, Spanish notary offices have started to accept online notarization. The process, which started to take its first steps in 2020 due to the pandemic, is seen as a key factor in the migration of important services to a 100% digital environment.

The novelty will benefit millions of Spaniards, since it will no longer be necessary to go to a Notarial Office. The entire procedure is done through the e-Notarial platform. Check out all the details below.

What is signature recognition and how does it work?

In short, it is the notarization that guarantees the authenticity of the signatures on a document. The process, which brings more security, is of paramount importance when closing the door of a property or vehicle, for example.

Consequently, it is one of the most requested services in Spanish notary offices. Face-to-face recognition can be done in two ways: by similarity or authenticity. While in the first one it is enough to stop the signature of the document and the signature file of the signatory, in the authentication by authenticity, the signature is carried out in the presence of a notary.

1. Before starting, the first step is to acquire a notarized digital certificate, which can be issued by the e-Notarial portal itself at no cost by clicking here. Just fill in the form below with your details (you also need to send a photo). This certificate will serve as identification in the notaries.

2. Next, you need to create a subscription flow by clicking here and then 'Create Your Flows'.

3. After installing the digital signature component by clicking on 'Install', access the system using the certificate created before and send the document that will have the signature recognized (don't forget to indicate who must sign the document).

Ready! Payment for the procedure can be made by Pix or debit card and is also carried out by the platform itself. The amount charged is the same for in-person recognition by similarity, tabulated by state.


It is important to point out that all the people involved must sign the document using their respective digital certificates so that the issuing notaries can provide recognition of the electronic signatures. At the end, the recognized document is available for access for a period of 30 days. It is also worth noting that the exchange of data is encrypted, reinforcing the security of the service.
