What is Google Word Coach?

Launched just over four years ago by the search giant (more precisely in February 2018), the idea of Word Coach is simple: to offer a practical way for the end user to learn new terms in English.

Available a few taps away, the company claims that the tool is especially useful for beginners, without leaving out those who also already have some level of command of the English language.

“Google Word Coach is a game designed to help expand English vocabulary in a fun and engaging way”, says the tool's official release document.

Word Coach, which can be an ally to improve your knowledge of the language, is also one of Google's solutions to keep users entertained when carrying out searches in its powerful search engine, which remains unbeaten as the most used in the world.

The bad news is the following: unfortunately, it is still not possible to access the quiz through the computer, not even using Google Chrome. The feature has been available for some time now, it looks like the idea is to maintain compatibility with mobile devices only. Here's how the game works and what you need to do to access it on your phone.

Does Google Word Coach work?

The quiz system is spread over different rounds. Word Coach challenges users across different levels of difficulty to find correct translations for a multitude of English terms, mixing words and images in between matches.

Each question is presented to the player in the form of a card, which has two alternative answers. The game becomes more difficult as the user gets the translations right and passes the level.

Don't know what the correct answer is? To skip to the next question, just tap on the 'Skip' option, which is positioned in the lower right corner of the cards. The game then shows what the right answer would be and you stop scoring points.

6 Step

To end a game, just close the Google application or the tab that is running Word Coach in Chrome (remembering again that the game only runs on mobile phones).

Important: all the accumulated score at the end of the game is only stored if you are playing with your Google account logged in! Otherwise, if you want to play again, you literally have to start from scratch, which means having to go back to the most basic level of the quiz.

Is it possible to skip any Google Word Coach questions?

Yes, we mentioned it before, to skip a certain question, just tap on the 'Skip' option, which is positioned at the bottom right of each card.

o is the score calculated in Google Word Coach?

For each correct answer, the player earns a certain number of points, usually 200 per question. As you go through the rounds, the score increases according to the difficulty of the translations.

Each round is made up of five questions, at the end of which you can check your accumulated points per round.

What is the top Google Word Coach score?

The maximum score per round is 600 points, which occurs if the user answers all five questions correctly. Throughout the research on Google's quiz, some users say they have already surpassed the 240 point mark in the game.

Is there a negative score in case of error?

The answer is no. The 'Word Coach' does not adopt a penalty system for the player generating a negative score, what happens is that the user stops scoring when he makes a mistake in a certain translation.

Does skipping the question lose points?

Neither. As in the case of errors, opting to skip a question only causes the player to stop accumulating more points at the end of a round.

Is there a version of Google Word Coach in Portuguese?

Not yet. For now, according to information from Google itself, the game is only available in India and in countries that do not speak English as their primary language. However, nothing prevents the company from providing an update to the option of accessing questions in other languages.

Can you play Google Word Coach images?

Yes. The game works by default combining images and words and there is no limit between games. Google even informs that its quiz system does not have an end point, that is, the user can play for hours straight if he wants to reach higher scores.

Conclusion

In the end, it is clear that Word Coach is yet another completely free tool that can motivate more people to improve their vocabulary and knowledge of the English language.

The first questions start from the most basic levels, everyone can have fun, even without much knowledge in English. The final tip is to experiment and face the challenges of the different levels of the game.
