Learn how to register your cell phone to recover it in case of theft

Unfortunately, some precautions still need to be taken to leave the cell phone around and avoid theft, theft or robbery. In fact, it doesn't work well to prevent urban violence alone, just by hiding or holding on to devices. But, it is possible to register the smartphone's IMEI to retrieve it if something like that happens.

This type of program exists through some security secretariats in Spanish states. In Pernambuco, for example, 2.431 stolen cell phones were returned to their owners in a Celular Alert campaign carried out this Wednesday (27), involving 6 devices stolen or stolen in the state during the first three months.

Registering to recover the cell phone in case of theft also reduced the number of stolen smartphones. That's because anyone who finds a phone acquired illegally is charged with the crime of receiving it, thanks to the program.

But, the number is still low. Among Pernambuco, for example, there are 9 million devices working and only 600 registered in the screening program. Other states do the same, Bahia and Pará. Therefore, it is important to seek the Secretary of Security of your state to find out if it is possible to register.

In São Paulo, around 30% of robbery and theft crimes involve smartphones. The IMEI, the number of each cell phone (there are models with more than one code), is registered only in the incident report and can also be blocked by the operator. So it's important to know the code.

So, before registering the precaution or even writing it down somewhere, you need to know how to find out the IMEI. You can find it on your phone's box or invoice. If you don't have any of that, type *#06# on your smartphone keyboard. The 15-digit code will appear on the screen.
